Relationship between Narcissism, Self-Esteem, and Social Media Addiction in Preclinical Medical Students

Background: Narcissism is a condition in which people have constant demand to be complimented and prioritized. Self-esteem subjective evaluation of one's worth. Several studies linked narcissism low self-esteem as risk factor social media addiction, disorder where individuals displayed an unhealthy compulsion access until it disrupts other activities. This study aimed discover the relationship between narcissism, self-esteem, addiction preclinical medical students. Methods: was cross-sectional observational analytical on 211 students at Atma Jaya Catholic University Indonesia. Instruments used this were Narcissistic Personality Inventory-16 (NPI-16), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), Bergen Social Media Addiction (BSMAS). Data analyzed statistically using Chi-square STATA analytic program.Results: Of all respondents, 6.6% narcissistic, 19.9% had 34.6% addiction.
